Argentina

Argentina is the second largest country in South America. Although one of the world's wealthiest countries 100 years ago, Argentina suffered during most of the 20th century from recurring economic crises, persistent fiscal deficits, high inflation, and mounting external debt.

Per capita income is more than $13,000, yet nearly 25% of the people live below the poverty level, and inflation and unemployment both run approximately 10% (2007 est).

The country is 92% Roman Catholic, but less than 20% are practicing. Possibly as few as 2% of the people believe in salvation by grace alone.

An independent Baptist ministry in the northern city of Tucuman has established several small rural churches. The Carpenter's Project assisted two of those congregations with building repairs.
